Its great to have began production and Maxx's shoot went really well. The team worked together, and with the exception of the cloudy weather, the entire shoot was rather smooth. Today James was given the green light. Unfortuately, not with the location that he wanted, but with some creative set dressing, we will make do with what locations we have. Lets Suit up!

James, rang you today, but haven't heard back. How did it go with Trent @ Actors Ink. Is he able to help? If so, has he been able to email you head shots? Also, are any of the actors Adam had on his list suitable? You need to lock in an audition time. Are you going to use the studios at Actors Ink? The photo of some of these locations you have on your blog are great. Do you have any further reccis organised or have you found the 'perfect' location? Did you get to have a look at the schedule? What do you think? Is it suitable?? It may have to be tightened up once all the locations are finalised. Hoping everything is going well and you are making some positive progress:)

Ben, how did it go with the meeting with Maggie and Debbie? Did you decide to give Adam a call? How many roles are left to be filled? What about the neighbours of 'old Mrs Jones'... did you have any luck with them? I haven't cancelled my neighbours yet, just in case they say no. If thats the case, I think it would be great to still use the old heritage house somehow. Did you go to the church service at the old church on the weekend? If so, how did that go and did you meet any of the locals that are willing to get involved? What was the end result with the rubbish truck? When you get a chance, check the schedules over and make sure I havn't missed anything obvious. Also if you get permission for all three homes in the town the location addresses will have to be altered on both the schedules and the call sheets. Adam should have left at MAPS a CD with all the files required to do this. Hope all is going well, and look forward to hearing an update.

Maxx, great to chat with you and get an update today. Very cool to get the hire of the camera so cheap. Well done. Hoping the Richmond Hotel finally came around, and signed up. It shouldn't be too difficult to alter the schedules as discussed today and I agree with changing the date of the night shoot. (remember if you change something on the schedule, then you must do the call sheet at the same time, so nothing gets lost or confused.) .. It may even be easier to get permission to film in a supermarket if we can shoot when the store is closed and the night fill shift is in there. (though most large shops stay open later these days).
Let me know how it goes with the school of the blind and if you find your actor. Have you been back out to the apple field. I wonder if much has changed over the last few weeks... anyway, all is going well, chat soon :)

I have spoken with my neighbour that lives across the road. He said it will be no problem with filming in his front yard. Yet to speak to my next door neighbour (who is also my landlord), but fingers crossed, he will also say yes!

Holidays Update - General stuff

As some of you are already aware, I have been accepted in a work experience position for two weeks at Vertigo (Dr Plonk). I am extremely excited about it, but it has cut into my pre-production schedule by two weeks. (May 8 - May 19)

For me this gives only one more week of pre. To get the films made the team needs to pull together.

I simply dont have the time to do everything, and need others to take over important tasks on the film (reccis, actors, etc). Teams please speak with your directors, to find out what needs doing!
It seems no one is really interested in doing the paperwork, so I will stick with it, and have solid drafts, with all current available information on them. I will place folders with all the info on the computers at school, and you will just have to fill in the blanks, or move things around, as new information comes to light. The more information I have this week, the less work for you guys later!!

Holidays Update - Ben

Ben. You are in the same boat as James, when it comes to actors. Actors Ink cannot help out with talent until the second week in May, but don't think they have the kind of age range you require, willing to work for free. You are doing extremely well in finding suitable people through your own contacts, but if Actors Ink cannot help with the age range you require, it may be worth while contacting some of the theatre groups in the southern area of Adelaide. I couldn't find Maggies number, but know where she lives and will drop by on Sunday, after I have delivered the letter to Caltex at Willunga.

I have contacted Angela Cahill from the Onkaparinga Council, and have submitted an application to film in the area. Angela is going on holidays for two weeks, but was very positive that we will get the permission to shoot in the area. The cost is $10 per day. I have to send her a copy of our insurance, this, I will access once MAPS opens. I have secured $100 from an interstate company, in exchange for a credit in our film. I will use this money to pay for the permit, and the balance will go towards catering.

I have not been able to contact Noarlunga Hall, but will keep trying.

I have given serious thought to the rubbish truck. I seriously don't believe we will get permission to use one. I am passing that task on to you Ben! I'd love you to prove me wrong! Do you have a shot list? I have broken down your script into locations, but can only guess from here on in. I will have drafts of schedule and call sheets done by the end of the week. They will be easy to add to or change things around, once more details come to light.
I hope to see my neighbours this weekend to get permission to shoot in their front yard. The only problem is, I can pretty much say we will not get permission to shoot inside their homes. They work and are not home during the day anyway, and I doubt they would offer me a key to their homes. To get around this it may be worthwhile looking at which 'inside' of house is most important. You can then use my home for that, and alter the script slightly to avoid going inside the other... or... find another house interior somewhere else that could pass...
Did you contact James regarding heading to SA Casting? It might be worth a try. Though I wonder whether they will have the kind of age groups you are looking for. As you know a lot of these actors personally, it is a good idea to get some release forms (hopefully Peter has got the new ones covering the internet) signed. We will have to sit down on Tuesday and see where everything is up to.

Holidays update - James

James. I spoke with Trent from Actors Ink today and he apologies, but can't help out with casting until the second week in May. If I have not heard from him before this date I am to call on Monday the 8th of May. He is not sure that he can cover all the roles required for the film. I suggest you take the script, and some chocolates to Anne Peters and use your wonderful charm, to try and source some actors through SA Casting. I think it is better to do this than to put all our eggs in one basket.
We must look at the school drama room as a location. We might have the perfect size, and perfect look, right under our noses! Thought needs to be given to all the locations, as it is becoming urgent. There are seven locations in your script. The breakroom being the most important! I hope you had some luck finding something suitable at the University.
I spoke breifly with Adam, and I think I will still be doing all the schedules and call sheets, as I am with Ben and Maxx. This is ok, as I was prepared to do this. I have also broken down your script into locations, but to get a more accurate schedule for you, could you please either email me or bring on Tuesday the shot list. I will make up drafts of all the documents. This way you can fill in the rest, as information becomes available. I also have $100 for your film, which I will use for payment of power, incidentals and catering.
Also just a reminder to look into getting permission to use that game you want.

Hi All,

Just updating what I can from the two week break.

Maxx. Drafts of the schedule and the call sheets have been made. Minus all the details of the cast, and final locations. We should be able to keep costs to a minimum by shooting over 3 days as apposed to four.
I will send you an email with the proposed schedule for you to look at. Let me know what you think. (This could obviously change, with the availability of some of the locations.
Have you found the right person for the character in your film?
The recci was great and the apple field was beautiful. I have spoken to the Richmond Hotel and my details and our request has been sent to the appropriate person.. only problem is, she is on holiday until the 3rd of May. If I dont get a call before then, I am to call on that day. Also I have the contact details for the marketing manager at Botanical Gardens, but he told me as we are not a commercial venture, we do not need to have a location agreement form signed, and can use the park as any other public person can.
Have you heard anything from the Art Gallery?
Hugh is still away and I have not been able to ask about hiring a camera or a light meter. I will try and find out tonight when he is due back, but I suggest you get quotes and availability from other sources in the meantime.
Did you check out your friends bedroom? Or will you use mine? The other location I have yet to get is the supermarket. We can discuss this on Tuesday, as there was some discussion of you wanting a huge one!? Need to confirm exactly what you are looking for.

Trent from Actors Ink has been contacted via email and I have requested an audition time for the 28th of May, at one of their studios. If this is not convenient for them, I have requested the auditions to be held in the first week of May. Audition pieces for each of the characters need to be chosen. Also, is it possible to get hold of a camera for the auditions? Also it is possible to get hold of the synopsis?

This film is based in a town called Willoughby, it has a neighbourhood watch theme - that perhaps goes too far. A new family moves into the town, an old lady goes missing, and the town has their suspicions. Tidy town is free of crime and rubbish.

A second town, Saxby, is mentioned in the film.

Actors required - eight
- family (consisting of middle aged man & woman, teenage girl, 16-17 years, younger brother - 12 years)

Production design is an important factor in this film.

All crew lists have changed due to some productions running simultaniously.

Great response from Certificate IV, with most positions now being filled. (A few more positions are available though).

Great to see Ben has returned, and Leigh will be accepting script by Monday 10th April. Bens production meeting will be held on Thursday 6th April. Possibly during or after MAPS.

Meeting for fundraising will now be held on Thursday 6th April. Those people requiring fundraising, please bring ideas to the table.

Maxx and Alans productions will be held within the first two weeks of allocated production time, due to processing of film.

Sharyn to bring photos of costumes for James.

Recci for James at Royalty Theatre went well. Only first week in June is available, (as long as there is no further bookings) for the shoot.

Adams Reccis went well, and he has decided on the cults/clubs/groups he will be using in his documentary.

Actors required - 3 main (2 female, 1 male) 2 supporting ( 2 male) 20 extras (extras sourced from family and friends.)

Locations - 2 required - Bedroom (Lisas bedroom)& gymnasium (possibly West Lakes Shore Primary School)

During our meeting it was suggested a more authentic location would work better for the film and Lisa has agreed to do a Recci to a number of suggested locations. (or look for other locations closer to her home) Suggested locations included - Woodhouse Scout Park, Old noarlunga swing bridge, Belair National Park,(adventure playground) - Depending on shoot requirements, these locations may need a generator.

Extras will be a group of people watching, some of them with bandages from injuries.

5 Nazi costumes - Lisa wants Adam to play a Nazi - perhaps a naked one? (Just kidding)

Film consists of a membership meeting - a secret society. Characters are fans of the Indiana Jones movies, are obsessed and want to be part of the movie.

Main character is a female Indiana Jones, other male is also an Indiana Jones character, other male is a Nazi character, other female is the Willie Scott character. Other male is the head of the cult (he is very serious, has no emotion when people die). Discussions at the meeting was leaning towards a George Lucas, Stephen Speilberg look alike.
Contracts are signed in the cult so the characters have no rights to bring a lawsuit against any injuries that occur. Members are put through 3 tests.
1. Boulder - Male Indiana Jones dies. A large beachball will be decorated to give the look of a boulder.
2. Bridge scene - The Nazi character dies. Lisa intended on building the bridge herself.
3. Animal scene - possibly Snakes, rats or bugs. A task needs to be invented for this scene.

Two characters make it through the tests and are sworn into the club. We see these characters make it through the tasks. The characters that die are not seen, at all going through the tasks. Perhaps the one on the bridge ends up accidently hanging himself.

The main character in the film dreams all this happening, the night before she is actually going for the test, so it is not real.

Lisa intends to make and buy Indiana Jones style and Nazi costumes. Willie Scott will need a red sequened dress.

Mick is to get in touch with Amy regarding the voice actor. Needs to have a German accent. (Nazi style) The Doctor is to be played by Stan.

Interegation scenes are to be shot in black and white. All the interegation scenes are 'real time'. All sketch scenes are memories.
1. Conception scene - clock, squeaking bed, snoring
2. Realisation of pregnancy - psycho moment using zoom in track out effect.
3. either a) Baby shop scene
b) Doctor scene
4. Mother in law/mother - maybe a phone call to a mate.
possible scene in the pub telling his mates he has to cancel the fishing trip.
5. Nesting scene - cleaning the house top to bottom.

Mick has researched by speaking to nurse at Womens & Childrens hospital, and also first hand experience.

Help is required for the score, James is to get a sample of music he suggested for Micks film.

For the final interegation scene, the baby is presented to the father, the scene begins in B&W. As the baby enters the frame it is in colour, then the father and everything else in the scene becomes coloured.
1st and last shots in the film will be long shots (interegation scenes), all scenes in the centre of the film will be mid and close up shots.

Locations required are, baby shop (2 options), interegation room (drama room at Hamilton), sketch 2. needs a lounge room, nesting scene needs a kitchen, Drs office (possibly use the sick bay at Hamilton) Dr will require coat and accessories.

Alan expects his story to be interperated in a number of ways.
Alan wants people to leave the film with their own interpretation. It will begin in a daydream and end in reality.

Recci - to a particular street in Unley. Possibly looking into a house/cabin in Aldinga or Silver Sands. Front of house, possibly Sharyns.

Set dressing - 70's style phone. old TV, old couch. old wallpaper on the walls.

Alan is looking for 'Live at the Marryatville' - The Accountants, Diagos, Ubombs.
Researching at vinyl record stores and has left his contact details at the Market Bizarre.

Main characters are outcasts/loners. They dream of a life they could have/wanted to have. A possibility. An alternative reality.

Alan will need special effects make-up for a gunshot.

Alan needs to do some fundraising and needs to organise a catering budget.

A music CD is being made for the crew - to get the vibe of the film.

This film will be self funded.

Maxx's research has included a radio interview, an interview with Michelle, who was born blind, over the phone. Maxx has more interviews to follow and has organised for tomorrow another phone conversation with Corina, another lady who was born blind.

One actor will be required, and for authenticity, Maxx is looking at using one of the ladies he has spoken with to play the lead role in the film.

Maxx wants his piece to make people think. He hopes to make the film so "If they can't visually see the picture, they can hear the picture". For those who can see, the intended look will be like a moving painting. (Pastel)
There will be a poem written for the film. The film will be narrated by a voice over artist, or possibly the lead character. The poem, and therefore, the film, will start off gloomy (sad), and throughout become stronger and happier. This will be reflected in the locations, lighting and style. Colour will be used throughout the film - possibly initially clashing and then finally complimenting. The film may begin and end in the characters bedroom. The character will begin in rather bland clothing, working through the film, and ending more colourful.

The film will be highly location based. There will be a number of locations, specifically chosen for their beauty. Proposed locations include - bedroom (for beginning and end), a field with a blue sky background (to represent 'God'), Richmond Hotel (Balcony - forefround & background, people walking below), Beach sunset, Art Gallery, Large manicured parkland, possible farm.

Sound will play an integral part in this film. Specific sounds of all locations will be very important. The best quality microphones available will be used here.

We need: four male lead actors, four female lead actors, and one older female actor. A small number of extras will also be required. We will be contacting 'Actors Ink' as soon as we have a script and an audition piece.

A number of costumes are required - recci on Friday 31st march to 'The Prop Shop' Athol Park, costume shop in city and a costume shop on South Road. Meeting with Netti (Micks wife) also to be scheduled.

A fundraiser must be organised as soon as possible to pay for all the costumes required. Possible fundraiser at the Mercury Cinema. To be discussed with Mark this Friday evening.

Themed music for the 'Park' will be required. Also Beginning/End/Incidental music.

With a large cast, a large amount of catering will be required.

Location: A single location is required, something that looks like, or is, a dressing room. Meetings have been organised with 'The Marion Cultural Centre' on Wednesday 12th April and 'The Royalty theatre', on Tuesday 4th of April. We are also waiting to hear back from 'The State Opera Studio', Netley, as another possible location.

This documentary looks into the behavior of the members of cults/clubs. It will look at why these people are drawn into it.

The documentary will look at five different clubs/cults.

The film will be shot over five separate weekends, and at the clubs/cults they are involved in, plus one day/night per week, to show the individual in their usual/normal day to day lives.
